Statistical First Release March 2010
The March 2010 Statistical First Release on Post-16 Education & Skills was republished on April 22nd 2010 with a number of revisions. These revisions were required due to technical errors and methodological changes. The provisional estimate of Apprenticeship achievements in the first 6 months of the 2009/10 academic year has been revised upwards. The number of learners participating in Full Level 2 and Full Level 3 provision in 2008/09 has also been revised. A more detailed explanation of the revisions is given in the commentary of the release and in the footnotes to each revised table. March 2010 Statistical First Release on Post-16 Education & Skills: Learner participation, outcomes and Level of Highest Qualification held.This Statistical First Release (SFR) will be produced by the Data Service in consultation with statisticians from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
It will provide information on learner participation and achievement for post-16 education from 2005/06 to 2008/09, as well as provisional data for the early part of the 2009/10 academic year.
It will include information from the Labour Force Survey on the level of highest qualification held in England, and information on vocational qualifications awarded in the United Kingdom.
Subject to data quality, the SFR will also include information on post-16 participation and achievement in School Sixth Forms.
Additionally, it will show performance in 2008/09 against the Government’s new Skills for Life Target.
