Status for Inclusion in Analysis Data Definition

Note: This page is from an older version of the Data Dictionary and may therefore contain information that is now out of date. It is included here for reference only.

1 Status of aim and learner for inclusion in analysis using 1 October as first census date.

Purpose

2 This is a definition for analysis purposes and determines whether or not a learner is actually there participating in the aim, was expected to be there or was not there at all in the relevant academic year.

Detailed definition

Aim Level

5 Their Status of the Aim is identified by looking at the tri-annual periods (terms), in the academic year

6 If a learner is absent for the year then their Status of Aim for Inclusion in Analysis (A_LIVE_B) has a value of 0.

7 If they are expected to be there for at least one tri-annual period according to their Learning Planned End Date (A28), but are not actually active for any tri-annual periods then their Status of Aim for Inclusion in Analysis (A_LIVE_B) has a value of 1. For example, a learner enrols on a two year course and withdraws before 1 October of the second year. They are expected to be live but actually are not; therefore their Status of Aim for Inclusion in Analysis (A_LIVE_B) has a value of 1.

8 If a learner is actually there for at least one tri-annual period, but was not expected to be there then their Status of Aim for Inclusion in Analysis (A_LIVE_B) has a value of 2.

9 If a learner was expected to be on an aim for at least one tri-annual period, and was actually was there for at least one tri-annual period then their Status of Aim for Inclusion in Analysis (A_LIVE_B) has a value of 3. Most learners will be in this category.

Learner Level

10 At learner level (L_LIVE_B) is calculated by simply taking the maximum value of their Status of Aim for Inclusion in Analysis (A_LIVE_B) for the learner’s aims.

11 Each aim and learner is coded as live according to the following categorisations:

L_LIVE_B and A_LIVE_B value
