Detailed definition
5 The ILR collects the number of Guided Learning Hours (GLH), (A32), in which it is planned to deliver the learning aim. This figure relates to the GLH for the lifetime of the aim, irrespective of the relevant academic year.
6 The Current Year Guided Learning Hours (CYGLH) determines those GLH that are relevant to the current academic year from the total GLH, by calculating the ratio of time taken for the aim in the current academic year to the total time taken to complete the aim.
7 The actual current year guided learning hours for an aim (A_ACT_A and A_ACT_B) are generally calculated using the GLH (A32) for the aim multiplied by the ratio of the number of terms in the current year to the total number of terms for the aim, subject to the following cases-
a If the aim was withdrawn before the first census date then the actual CYGLH will be zero.
b If the aim is completed then the actual number of terms for the year (PRD_ACT) and the actual number of terms for the aim (TOTPDACT) are used.
c If the aim is completed and is a sandwich course of actual duration greater than 3 terms then the ratio is modified slightly to be the actual number of terms in the current year (PRD_ACT) divided by (the actual total number of terms for the aim (TOTPDACT) minus the actual number of terms or the aim divided by three and rounded down).
d If the aim hasn’t been completed then the expected number of terms for the year (PRD_EXP) and the expected number of terms for the aim (TOTPDEXP) are used.
e If the aim hasn’t been completed and is a sandwich course of actual duration greater than 3 terms then the ratio is modified slightly to be the expected number of terms in the current year (PRD_EXP) divided by (the expected total number of terms for the aim (TOTPDEXP) minus the expected number of terms or the aim divided by three and rounded down).
f If the collection is not ACL and the learner is marked as being absent for the year, then the actual CYGLH is set to zero.
8 The expected current year guided learning hours for an aim (A_EXP_A and A_EXP_B) are generally calculated using the GLH (A32) for the aim multiplied by the ratio of the number of terms in the current year to the total number of terms for the aim subject to the following cases-
a If the aim was withdrawn before the first census date then the expected CYGLH will be zero.
b If the aim is completed then the expected number of terms for the year (PRD_EXP) and the actual number of terms for the aim (TOTPDACT) are used.
c If the aim is completed and is a sandwich course of actual duration greater than 3 terms then the ratio is modified slightly to be the expected number of terms in the current year (PRD_EXP) divided by (the actual total number of terms for the aim (TOTPDACT) minus the actual number of terms or the aim divided by three and rounded down).
d If the aim hasn’t been completed then the expected number of terms for the year (PRD_EXP) and the expected number of terms for the aim (TOTPDEXP) are used.
e If the aim hasn’t been completed and is a sandwich course of actual duration greater than 3 terms then the ratio is modified slightly to be the expected number of terms in the current year (PRD_EXP) divided by (the expected total number of terms for the aim (TOTPDEXP) minus the expected number of terms or the aim divided by three and rounded down).
f If the collection is not ACL and the learner is marked as being absent for the year, then the expected CYGLH is set to zero.
9 The Learner level Actual CYGLH (L_ACT_B) is the summation of the aim Actual CYGLH (A_ACT_B) for all the Learners aims, except those aims where the status of aim for inclusion in analysis is set to not included (using A_LIVE_B)
10 The Learner level Expected CYGLH (L_EXP_B) is the summation of the aim Expected CYGLH (A_EXP_B) for all the Learners aims, except those aims where the status of aim for inclusion in analysis is set to not included (using A_LIVE_B)
11 Note that first funding census date of 1st October is used in the ILR, but previously to that i.e. pre 2002/03 in the ISR, the funding policy had been that the first funding census date was 1st November. To reflect these differences A_ACT_B is derived using the 1st October census date, whereas A_ACT_A uses the 1st November census date, likewise for A_EXP_B and A_EXP_A, they are both derived exactly the same apart from the different first census dates.
