Unique Provider Identification Number (UPIN) Definition

DEFINITION

1. The Unique Provider Identification Number (UPIN) is a reference number assigned by the Provider Information Management System (PIMS) to each provider contracted by the LSC.

DESCRIPTION

2. In 2006, the LSC linked the information contained in PIMS into the UK Register of Learning Providers (UKRLP), and provider numbers assigned by PIMS are not linked to the UK Provider Reference Number (UKPRN) assigned by UKRLP.

3. Eventually, the UKPRN will replace the UPIN as the single provider identifier across the system.
