Standard Files Metadata 2008/2009
INTRODUCTION
1. Standard files contain data from collections (mainly the ILR collection) which has been calculated and formatted for further analysis using various derived variables, which are defined elsewhere. A Standard File may represent a sub-set of the collection data dependant on the various business reporting and analysis requirements.
2. Each Standard File should be described in terms of the following Metadata in addition to any General Metadata.
NAME
3. The name of the Data set and the relevant ILR (or other) Collection.
PURPOSE
4. What the Standard file is used for and an indication of its intended audience or distribution.
WHEN GENERATED / COLLECTED
5. The timetable of when the standard files / dataset will be available.
METHOD OF GENERATION/COLLECTION
6. Details of the process carried out to convert raw data into a suitable format for use with SPSS/SQL. This generally includes the calculation of Derived variables, the definition of which can be found in the relevant section of the Data Dictionary
DATASETS
7. A list of datasets contained in the standard file, linked to the appropriate page.
PREVIOUS YEARS' DATASETS
8. Details of the Standard Files from previous years, linked to the appropriate dataset.
