Standard Files 2009/2010

ILR FILES

1. The Standard Files contain data from ILR collections, formatted for further analysis with derived variables.

PURPOSE

2. Rather than analysis being carried out on raw ILR data, the data is pre-processed, converted into a format more suitable for the specific analysis tools, has derived variables added and, where appropriate, reduced to a subset targeted at the specific purpose.

WHEN COLLECTED / GENERATED

3. The standard files are generated on a regular basis after the relevant ILR collection date until the vast majority of the expected number of providers have returned data.

METHOD OF COLLECTION / GENERATION

4. In order to convert the ILR data into a format where it is ready for analyses, a set of SPSS ‘standard code’ is run against an extract of raw data from the corporate database. This code produces the datasets referred to as the ‘standard files’. The standard code converts the data into SPSS format, attaches field labels and value labels, and computes a range of ‘derived variables’.

5. The only aspects of the generation that affect the data content are the addition of the derived variables. The definitions for each of these derived variables are available and can be found by following the links in the dataset definitions listed below or by looking in the Derived Variables section of the data dictionary.

6. Information about the format and content of the collected ILR data can be found in the Collections Business Definition.
