PDSAT 2011/12 software and documentation

The Provider Data Self-assessment Toolkit (PDSAT) for funding year 2011/12 functions by analysing data exported from the Learner Information Suite (LIS) series 19 and producing PDSAT reports on this data.

The PDSAT will give providers a toolkit to enable them to perform their own funding analysis, whether or not the provider will receive a funding audit during 2011/12.

The PDSAT has been designed to:
  • provide colleges and other providers with a toolkit to enable them to perform their own analysis on their ILR data; and
  • assist auditors in the audit of providers’ ILR data for 2011/12.

The PDSAT v12 software will only process 2011/12 ILR data for full returns.

Known Issue
- Provider DSAT v12 – Program Processing Issue.
As with previous versions of DSAT, some users of PDSAT v12 may experience problems with the speed/processing time for reports. We have made every effort to improve the processing time however, outputs of more than a few thousand rows take time to be generated.  Significantly large reports will take some considerable time to be exported and outputs in excess of 65,536 rows with MS-Office2003 previous will fail.  Users who have shut down DSAT and then restarted the process to find that the generated data file is only partially completed or empty (this has been caused by orphaned processes being left running in the background).

When using PDSAT, users must wait for the pop-up screen stating “Your Selected Reports have been run. Do you wish to view the reports?” or an error message before closing PDSAT. If a user has to abort the PDSAT process then they should reboot their computer before attempting to run PDSAT again.

Testing and Future Updates

Every effort has been taken to ensure the reports produced by PDSAT are accurate in every respect.  Owing to the move to the single ILR and the availability of “good” test data, it has not always been possible to exhaustively test the PDSATs in all circumstances.  If a provider has a concern regarding the output to a particular report, they are invited to forward their concerns to the PDSAT Help Desk ( dsathelpdesk@kpmg.co.uk ) where any errors will be rectified in the next release due before Christmas 2011.

The next release of PDSAT will include a revision to the funding output for reports that will show purely classroom based or workplace funding amounts rather than the current breakdown.  In some reports some fields maybe removed or included to enhance understanding.

Annotations for reporting are to be included where users will be able to add their own comments to the MS-Excel outputs and these will be recorded and output in future outputs.

The cross-reporting is to be developed to enable the cross- reporting of returns from 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12.
