2012/13: Are you ready for the move to XML?
Following the move to a single ILR in XML format in 2011/12, we provided a conversion facility in the Learner Information Suite (LIS) to allow providers to convert ILR flat files into XML format files.
For 2012/13 this conversion facility will no longer be provided in the LIS, all providers who submit learner data are required to create and submit their ILR files for 2012/13 in XML format only, as stated in the 2012/13 ILR Specification.
The information authority has recently conducted a survey to ascertain provider readiness for 2012/13 and the switch to XML. Both learning providers and our software supplier advisory group were surveyed.
Of the 13 software suppliers surveyed, 11 are currently already outputting ILR files in XML and are also ready for 2012/13.The remaining two suppliers are planning to be ready for 2012/13.
Of the 211 providers responding to the survey, 89% stated they will be ready to output XML files for 2012/13. The 11% that stated they may not be ready have been contacted; some of these are POL users so this change does not impact them, the remainder are in discussions with their software supplier/developer about the progress on development of their MI systems for 2012/13.
The information authority has answered the queries raised in the survey, which they have published on their website.
