Addition of new qualifications to the Learning Aim Database (LAD)

The Data Service wishes to apologise for delays in adding new qualifications to the Learning Aim Database (LAD).

To help with addressing this issue, a batch of partial data has been loaded overnight and is available on the LAD from 02 October 2009. This includes around a thousand qualifications accredited by Ofqual and approved under Section 96 and 97.

However the data loaded does not yet include funding information for these qualifications; which will be added progressively for qualifications eligible for funding. This means that the data visible now for these qualifications will not include funding data; however this does not necessarily mean the qualifications will not be funded.

The Data Service has received many queries on the Full Level 2 and 3 status of QCF qualifications, which is linked to whether a qualification is funded under the Employer Responsive model. The policy on the Full Level 2 and 3 status of QCF qualifications has yet to be finalised by the LSC, so the Data Service unfortunately does not yet have any information which can be loaded onto the LAD.

In general, qualifications accredited by Ofqual are not currently added to the LAD until they are approved under Section 96 or 97. This process can take some weeks after the initial accreditation of the qualification, and it will usually take another two weeks to process the qualification within the LSC and Data Service once a qualification is approved.

The Section 96 and 97 websites can provide helpful information in understanding the progress of an individual qualification. These websites are
